FAQ
Can I create a 3D map of any trail in the world?
Yes! If you have completed a hike, run, or ride, we can build it. You can upload a .GPX, .KML, or Strava activity file for a 100% custom piece. Or you can search sites like AllTrails for popular trails and get the .GPX file from there.
How do I get my GPX file?
Most GPS watches and outdoor apps (Strava, Garmin Connect, AllTrails, Gaia GPS, Apple Fitness) allow you to export your activity as a .gpx file. Simply go to your activity settings on the web or in-app and select "Export GPX."
What if my trail was an out-and-back or had a detour?
No worries! Our design tools automatically smooth and clean up GPX tracks to remove duplicate overlapping lines, GPS "jitter," or accidental detours. You'll receive a digital proof to review before we print.
What are the maps made of?
Our maps are crafted using high-resolution, plant-based PLA (Polylactic Acid) plastics. They are lightweight, durable, and industrially compostable.
Can I add custom text or plaques to my map?
Absolutely. Every custom order includes personalized text. You can add details on all 6 sides of the hexagon base and include such information as:
- Trail Name / Summit Name & Elevation
- Hiker / Runner Name & Finishing Date
- Total Distance, Elevation Gain, or Moving Time
- Custom Milestones or Coordinates
What if it is a multi-day hike with multiple GPX files?
Send us all the GPX files for the activity. As an option we can alternate trail colors to represent multiple day hikes. Where the color changes will represent your camp site for the night. Alternatively, we can combine the multiple days into one trail color.
What are my color options?
The base option is to have one terrain color and one trail color. Each additional color adds $10 to the print. Mountainous areas look nice with scree (fallen rock) taken from topographical mapping data or we can just color mountains gray above a certain elevation. Water features can also enhance the print, particularly if you camped near lakes. Forests can also add realism to the print. No matter which options you pick, we think you're going to enjoy having a physical representation of the adventure you completed!
What if my hike was really long?
While there are technically no limits to the length of the hike that can be represented, the longer the linear distance, the more elevation changes will be minimized in the product. The best activities for 3D printing are 50 miles or less, and better when they are a loop. This will make elevation changes more dramatic and make your epic adventure look that much more epic! A hundred plus mile through-hike of like the Appalachian Trail would not work well as a tile unfortunately.
I'd like to give a tile as a gift, but I don't know what a GPX file is?
We love to help with designing surprise gifts! Reach out to us via email with details of the receiver's hike and we can try to either find their GPX files online or create a path using public known trail data.
Will I see a preview before my map is printed?
For all custom GPX and personalized text orders, we email you a digital 3D rendering within 24–48 hours. We won't start the 3D printing process until you approve the design!
How long does it take to make and ship my map?
- Design & Proofing: 1–2 business days.
- 3D Printing & Assembly: 3–5 business days (high-detail terrain prints take up to 15+ hours per piece!).
- Shipping: Standard delivery usually takes 3–5 business days depending on location.
